This article is based on the business named Furniture Hut, which was discovered through social media on its journey to find replacements for plastic products in order to build a plastic free country via Zero Plastic Initiative.
Mr. Pubudu Imesh Darshana Fernando, who lives in Moratuwa, Colombo runs this business while he engaged in his studies. His father is a carpenter and works at home. Mr. Pubudu creates these products using discarded pieces of teak wood. In order to keep the quality and the durability of the products, he polished the wood and waterproof coatings are applied. Those wooden docking stations are used to keep your desk neat and tidy while holding various types of things such as mobile phone, notebooks, wristlet-watches, coins, pens and pencils etc. And also it can be used to keep the mobile phone while it is charging.
He started his business about 4 months ago and has now sold a product to the USA via e-bay. In addition to that number of products were sold out for the local customers. Since they are manufactured from his own house, he delivers products for the customers who lived near his house by himself. He currently deals with customers via banks. These days he manufactures products only on customer demand and intends to further develop and produce variety of products in the future.
He hopes that by selling those products through a trusted group as Zero Plastic, he will build trust about his products with in customers who are willing to buy those eco-friendly products.
